 Ask Jewish Lives: AI Chatbot Supplemental Terms of Use & Disclaimers

These AI‑Powered Biography Exploration Chatbot Terms of Use and Disclaimers (“AI Chatbot Terms”) supplement the Terms of Use governing JewishLives.org and its related digital assets (collectively, the “Services”), which are operated by The Leon D. Black Foundation and its affiliates and subsidiaries (collectively, the “Foundation,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

By accessing or using the AI‑powered chatbot features made available through JewishLives.org (the “Chatbot”), you agree to be bound by:

  1. These AI Chatbot Terms, and

  2. The Foundation’s general Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, which are incorporated by reference.

If you do not agree, please do not use the Chatbot.

1. Purpose and Scope of the Chatbot

The Chatbot is designed to help users explore, engage with, and better understand the biographies published as part of the Jewish Lives series. The Chatbot generates responses based on selected texts from those biographies and related contextual material provided by the Foundation. The Chatbot is offered solely for educational and informational purposes.

2. Accuracy, Limitations, and Nature of AI‑Generated Content

The Chatbot uses artificial intelligence to generate responses. While the Foundation makes reasonable efforts to ensure the quality and reliability of the underlying source material, AI‑generated content is inherently probabilistic and interpretive.

As a result:

·        Responses may contain errors, omissions, outdated information, or misinterpretations.

·        Responses may oversimplify complex historical, cultural, or biographical subjects.

·        Responses may not reflect the full scope, nuance, or scholarly consensus related to a given topic.

Users should independently verify all information before relying on it.

3. Non‑Authoritative and Non‑Exhaustive Responses

Chatbot responses:

·        Are not authoritative, definitive, or exhaustive;

·        Reflect an automated interpretation of selected source material; and

·        Should not be treated as a substitute for reading the original biographies or consulting primary sources.

The Foundation does not represent that Chatbot responses constitute official statements, endorsements, or conclusions of Jewish Lives, the authors of the biographies, or the Foundation.

4. No Professional, Legal, or Historical Advice

 The Chatbot does not provide legal, medical, academic, historical, or other professional advice.

Nothing generated by the Chatbot should be relied upon as:

 ·        Legal advice

·        Scholarly or academic analysis

·        Fact‑checked historical determination

·        Professional judgment of any kind

 Use of the Chatbot is at your own discretion and risk.

 5. Intellectual Property and Rights

The Jewish Lives biographies and related content are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The Chatbot is designed to respect those rights and to operate within applicable legal and licensing frameworks.  6. User Eligibility and Age Restrictions

 The Chatbot is intended for use by individuals 18 years of age or older.

If you are under 18 (or under the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction), you may only use the Chatbot with the supervision and consent of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to be bound by these AI Chatbot Terms on your behalf.

Parents and guardians are responsible for the actions and omissions of minors using the Chatbot.

7. Acceptable Use Guidelines

By using the Chatbot, you agree that you will not:

 ·        Submit or transmit content that is defamatory, harassing, hateful, discriminatory, obscene, threatening, or otherwise unlawful;

·        Use the Chatbot for illegal, deceptive, or unethical purposes;

·        Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or compromise the security or functionality of the Chatbot or related systems;

·        Reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, or attempt to extract source code, models, or underlying data;

·        Share sensitive personal information, including but not limited to Social Security numbers, financial account information, or other confidential data.

 The Foundation reserves the right to restrict or terminate access for violations of these guidelines.

 8. Privacy and Data Use

 Your use of the Chatbot is subject to the Foundation’s Privacy Notice.

 By using the Chatbot, you acknowledge and consent that:

 ·        Interactions may be recorded, stored, and reviewed for quality, research, security, or improvement purposes; and

·        Such data may be shared with the Foundation’s service providers in accordance with applicable privacy and data protection laws.

10. Changes and Updates
